The Social Bridge

From Formal Learning to Practical Application

Julian StoddLondon (UK), June 2015 - Julian Stodd, renowned author on the Social Age, is to present at the upcoming Learning & Skills Group Conference on bridging the gap between formal learning and its practical application in the workplace. "Formal learning is - rightly - part of L&D's role in the workplace. But too often the formal event is followed by the manager saying, -˜and now we'll tell you how it's really done here," points out Julian Stodd.

The "social bridge" from formal learning to practical application, builds on Julian’s popular session on social tools at January’s Learning Technologies to examine how to bridge the gap between the purely formal and the practical. Drawing on experience of pursuing this approach in areas as diverse as induction and leadership training, Julian will explore increasing speed to competence; creating “rehearsal spaces” for learning; unlocking that elusive, tacit tribal knowledge of your organisation; grounding formal learning in actual reality; and supporting technologies.

The event takes place at London Olympia on 16 June and comprises two parts: the Learning Technologies Summer Forum, a free exhibition of learning-industry suppliers and a free seminar programme, and the Learning & Skills Group Conference.
