New European Awards for Excellence
Berlin, July 2006 – To honour and stimulate high-quality Computer Support for Collaborative Learning (CSCL) research, design and development in Europe, the Kaleidoscope CSCL Special Interest Group has established three awards.

The award categories are:
  • European CSCL Award for Excellence in the Field of CSCL Research and/or Development
  • European CSCL Award for Excellence in the Field of CSCL Technology
  • European CSCL Award for Excellence in PhD Research.
Nominations can be made by members of Kaleidoscope as well as by participants in the CSCL community in Europe. Each award is accompanied by a prize of 1,000 euros. The deadline for nominations is October 1, 2006.

The Computer Support for Collaborative Learning Special Interest Group CSCL SIG) is a flagship activity in Kaleidoscope. With over 380 members, of whom 138 are Ph.D students, the CSCL SIG has members from all the countries involved in Kaleidoscope.

It recognises the multidisciplinary nature of the field of CSCL including the design of learning environments, the design and implementation of technological artefacts, and methodologies and theoretical frameworks for evaluation of learning activities. During the four-year Kaleidoscope period, the CSCL SIG has as its primary goal to structure the European Research Area of Computer Support for Collaborative Learning and to ensure its sustainability.
