Personalized Learning Options

ASU EdPlus Chooses Learning Objects as Development Partner

Boston, MA (USA), September 2017 - Learning Objects, a Cengage company, has been selected by Arizona State University (ASU) as the program-development partner for ASU’s Continuing and Professional Education, which serves over 12,000 students each year. Together, Learning Objects and ASU EdPlus, the institution’s innovation-oriented arm, will rapidly develop new professional and continuing-education programs on the Learning Objects platform, featuring a modern online environment.

In collaboration with ASU instructional designers and subject matter experts, Learning Objects will create soft-skills and project-management programs for roll-out beginning this fall. Learning Objects and Cengage will provide content, assessment resources, services, and technology, ensuring a seamless program that can be scaled quickly to meet market needs.

"Today’s students demand flexibility in how, when, and where they consume content, as well as in the kinds of courses they take. With this in mind, we are working with ASU to develop new, competency-based programs designed to map directly to a student’s future career and education goals," said Michael Hansen, Chief Executive Officer of Cengage. "ASU takes bold steps to bring innovation to education, and through our partnership, we will bring flexible, personalized learning options to their students. The new programs will provide ASU Continuing and Professional Education learners with valuable credentials and confidence to set them apart in today’s job market."

Programs will be built and delivered on the Learning Objects competency-based platform, enabling tracking of learner performance with the granting of Open Badges and an extended, competency transcript. Based on IMS Global standards, the learning environment maps competencies to learning activities and assessments, so students demonstrate mastery at their own pace, earning credentials each step along the way.

"As part of ASU’s mission to help masters students acquire skills-based knowledge to support their career aspirations, we are expanding the university’s Continuing and Professional Education program," said Darcy Richardson, Director of Continuing and Professional Education at ASU EdPlus. "Through our partnership with Cengage, we will utilize their Learning Objects platform for one of our first upcoming programs, Project Management."
